Technical Support / Electrical shutdown on highway
« Last post by Jose Rita on July 23, 2026, 01:28:04 PM »So my headaches continue. While traveling on 40 thru Knoxville I had a flickering dash lights and complete engine shutdown. I was able to pull it off to a breakdown lane and after about 5 minutes with no ignition it started back up. Went down the road about a mile, hit a nasty bump that I didn’t see and shut down again. Same thing started after 5-10 minutes.
The conditions were that it was night time, raining and hot. So, headlights were on windshield wipers on and the overhead fan on to assist airflow from the house AC unit. The voltage dial on the dash read just slightly over 12.
We made it back home to MA without using the overhead fan and traveling only during daylight. It is going into the shop in a couple of weeks; shop closed on vacation. I have tried to recreate it and it does shutdown sometimes. When it shutdowns down I first notice that the voltage dash dial starts to drop voltage while the digital (silverleaf ?) shows 14.4. Dash lights flicker engine shuts down. Funny is that once shut down, dash lights are on, parking lights are on and the hazard flashers work. I have checked the obvious, the battery connections and any other loose connections. Any guidance would be appreciated.

If memory is correct it has 6 shocks, 4 on the front axle and 2 on the rear axle. OEMs were Bilstien Gas. Hopefully an 02 owner will confirm. I just checked Shock Warehouse and they indicate 4 but I think this is incorrect as my 01 Contessa had 6.

« Last post by Carl Boger on July 22, 2026, 10:46:05 PM »I believe most have 4 shocks located at the tires. Mine had 6 shocks, but the extra 2 in the front were likely because it was a shorter MH.

Can anybody respond, as I currently am unable to get under coach to investigate.

Found out later that the other shops we consulted would have had these guys build it too.
I bet they would suggest a shop near you.

The job looks simple enough, just have to have the right tools. I feel better knowing that there is a supplier tho. Now I can work on an electrical issue.

A few years ago, I had our coach's steering axle repaired - new kingpins and wheel bearings, two tie rod ends, drag link, four airbags, etc. - all done at Chassis Dynamics in Yuma, AZ. The firm told me up front to source all the parts myself to save their 25% or so markup.
