Title: Aqua Hot Mixing Valve
Post by: Keith Moffett Co-Admin on October 13, 2020, 04:47:44 AM
After replacing the mixing valve last year I was curious to try to repair the old one.  At last I found "zep Calcium Rust and Lime " remover.   The valve had been completely frozen in place and two hours or so in a 50% mix of Zep and hot water  freed it up completely.  A bit of oil for lube and it is like new.
Warning
This product is costic so wear gloves and eye protection and don't breathe the fumes few thought they are.

I replaced my mixing valve in Feb 19.  I did the same except used vinegar and some Lime away.  Good to keep as a spare.

Another idea we have used is rotate the the mixing valve from hot to cold several times every 6 months to keep it working efficiently . Our current mixing valve has lasted 9 years.
