Title: rally map on web page
Post by: Jerry Carr on January 10, 2021, 03:57:50 PM
Maybe I am missing something, when I try the rally map I don't see the Beaver rally for 2021 in Bend? I do see  Dreamboats & Petticoats Date Sep 14-18, 2022
Did the club cancel the DREAMBOATS & Petticoats September 15, 2021

Jerry the 2021 rally is called September to Remember and it is on the rally map for 2021. The problem is with the web site rally list it is incomplete and inaccurate

Keith,
BT is apparently also wrong as it too lists "Dreamboats and Petticoats".

It would be respectful to the membership and rally masters if more attention is paid to update the web site, this has been an ongoing problem for many years. You would think that the links would be accurate for an international rally? Both Keith and Steve are correct the 2021 International is not any place on the web site the only mention is in the BT. I would guess the rally is full but it should still be on the Map and should also show on the rally list.

Jerry, Keith,
Note that the rally map was created by a user, not the web master. The dates are confusing to say the least. I'll contact webmaster to see if he can correct the Dreamboats date on the web list (chg to 2022) and add the Sept to Remember to the map.

All,
From the Webmaster:
"I updated the Bend rallies as indicated. This was my error – my apologies to all.

I do not maintain the rally map. However, I do show the “September to Remember” rally when you expand the map, and list the rallies for 2021 (rally number 11). It appears that since the 2022 rally is in the same location as the 2021 rally, the icons are stacked, and icon 14 is hiding icon 11."

Keith, per your 1/28/16 post, you own and maintain the rally map. Please offset the 14 icon so the 11 icon is viewable. If you are no longer maintaining the map, please pass this on and let us know who the new owner is.
Thx, Steve

Steve as I check the map I can not find #11.  the ad does show the 9-21 rally, I did try to post this yesterday but the reply was not working

If i look very close I can now see the date in the small font but no balloon I thought it may be a cache history but I did clear the browser history and still have the same results.

Jerry,'
As I noted in my earlier post, the rally map is owned by Keith Cooper (or his designate). Neither the webmaster or I have the ability to modify it.

Steve, If we are not able to update the map and information then we should remove this resource from the website. Has anyone tried to contact Keith?

Jerry,
Keith responded to your original post in this thread so he is aware of the issue. I'll send him a follow-up in any case.

Once upon a time , the club held 20 - 30 rallies a year. The rally map was created  in 2012 to provide a chronological visual representation of the rallies being held. It also provided links to information that might be helpful, like number of current openings as well as a link to the flyer for each rally. At the end of each year that rally map was moved to a rally history section of the web page where members could, if they chose find information on rallies held in the past.
I did this initially to get a handle on where rallies were being held and who was hosting them. The results were actually quite interesting. Obviously, someone in their infinite wisdom has decided there is no value in maintaining a history file so that appears to be gone at this point.
As to how to use the rally map you will find directions on the map page itself. The map page is updated on a quarterly basis with the release of the new Beaver Tales or as needed when it is requested by a rally master, director or VP.
The rally map is done using google My Maps and two years are shown because of the pitiful number of rallies being proposed. As to why to rallies appear in one location its because they are being held at the same site. So I changed the location of the second rally to Bend even though its actually in Redmond.

Thanks Keith, the updated map is now working fine, I appreciate the history archive that you had, it's really to bad that this is not available presently.  I think history is great for planning I remember when you initially provided this after a Branson rally.
I do Appreciate your club work
