Title: Front TV Optical Cable Installation
Post by: Bill Heffernan on May 29, 2021, 03:57:53 PM
I'm attempting to run an optical cable from the front TV to a receiver located above the passenger's seat. Any know how to run a cable between those tow locations. It does not appear to me that the area is very accessible.

Fairly new to this coach. Loving it so far and getting educated every day.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
The brochure diagram seems to show the front TV cabinet mounted and continuous cabinets around to above the passenger seat. Thus you should be able to run the cable through the cabinets by drilling access holes at the rear of the cabinets as needed

Bill,

I believe that you will find the TV cabling behind the trim piece that runs the full width above the front overhead cabinets (see image below). This trim is removable. It is held in place by cabinet latches and Velcro, you have to pull pretty hard to remove it. It is a tight fit; I would use blue masking tape to protect the cabinets at each end.

Once this panel is removed you should have access to run cabling from the TV to your receiver.

Thanks Scott. My back-up plan is to go through the cabinets as Steve suggested.

Thanks!!!

On our 2005 PT, I found no way to access the space below or behind the cabinets above the cab. It seems on our coach that they are all one piece fiberglass without a removable floor or back. Bummer.

Bill, let us know what you find out!

   Bill,
From what I have learned, it is easier to fix a small mistake rather that a large one. Once you decide on the best route to take so you can gain access to your destination, drill a 3/32" hole into the cabinet wall or partition. If you hit steel try another location 1" away. If all is good. drill a 1/4" hole thru the 3/32 hole. Take a coat hanger and probe the 1/4" hole for access and obstacles. Once you get that far, drill the size you need to pull all cables required. Fun project and rewarding, Hope this helps, Fred

Success, I ended up incorporating a couple of the recommendations. The trim above the front cabinet doors is removable in our coach. In fact there is a lot going on behind that trim, including the power outlet for the TV. Once I fished the cable into that area I ran it through the cabinets to the to the receiver above the passenger seat. The next step is to upgrade the speakers.

Thanks for all the guidance.
