Getting ready to order two AC units think I have narrowed it down to the Penguin II 15000 Low Profile with Heat Pump. What are your thoughts? Stay with low-profile? Built-in heat pump a good or bad idea? Will I need to run new wires and get new thermostats?
My units are 25 years old and the coils are falling apart, it's time to replace the units

Jeff,
I think you have made a good choice and kept it simple and easy to do the upgrade. The only modification that I can remember is to buy the ribbon cable adaptor from Dometic that will allow you to use the original thermostat wiring and plug into the new 10 button thermostats. A call to Dometic with the original model Duo-therm air conditioners and they will advise what you need. Hope this helps, Fred

We replaced our AC's a few years ago. The newer Penguins are much quieter; go with the lo-profile and heat pump. k

I have the same year as you do, my front unit was replaced recently before I bought it last year and it still has the same front thermostat. I can check out all the details later this week when I have time and let you know what was done. I am an actual HVAC tech, so I should be able to get you some good info. when I get to crawl around on the roof.

John sounds great. May place the order later today on tomorrow, still collecting more info... for one heat pump vs heat strips or one of each

Jeff,
I am not sure that Amazon t-stat is compatible with the new air conditioners, Call Dometic first. Fred

I will give Dometic a call

I did climb up on my roof and found that my 'new' front AC has a 2012 date code, so there is no info pertinent to Jeff's installation. My rear unit is original, and still works fine after 27 years.
