Title: Valid / Powergear Cracked Hyd Tank
Post by: Anand Shah on July 16, 2022, 08:04:34 AM
Hi All

New field problem - my coach has the Valid / Powergear air + hydraulic leveling system.   The hydraulic is 3 point.   On the road in Alaska and after going through the washboard road from Destruction Bay to Tok, the hydraulic tank started to leak.   It is cracked in two places where it attaches to the pump, as it does not have external supports the excess vibration clearly made it give.

I tried to drain and patch with JB weld tank repair to no success.  For now, I’ve unplugged the float switch to not have the panel beeping at me all day, and it has more or less dripped out.  I have been using air leveling.

Have not been able to find info (maybe in coach assist?) on how the tank attaches to the pump and whether I can remove / find a replacement tank or have it repaired or welded.  Anyone have experience with this or have suggestions?

Greetings from the Kenai Peninsula.

Anand

Anyone have experience with this?

Had the same problem last year when in Texas. JB weld did not work for me either. Wound up removing the tank and had it repaired (welded/brazed) by a local boat repair facility. Found them by looking for metal fabrication shops.
The design is terrible, the tank hangs off the pump with no support under the tank, surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Hope this helps.

I called Valid - they don’t support the Hydraulic side.  They don’t have parts.   They say the Hydraulics were all PowerGear which is now Lippert.

Thanks, this is what I think I will do when I get home.  Can’t find a replacement tank.   Agree that the design is terrible.   Might have to fab some kind of bracket to hold it up, too.
