Does anyone know what model or brand ignition switch was used in the 04 Marquis ? My switch has a dead spot developing so I would like to replace it before it leaves me stranded.

Early Chevrolet 70's C-10 pick-up truck made by Delco Remy. Use paper clip into the small hole in the key face, turn the key to the left and go past ACC until the cylinder comes out. Unscrew the recessed bezel and the switch will come out from behind along with the spacer. Unplug the harness and reverse the procedure with the replacement switch. Fred

It could also be the ignition solenoid in the front run bay below the driver. On my 02’ Marquis, after changing the key switch and no joy, then replaced the ignition solenoid and problem solved. Hope this helps, good luck!

I did go get a spare solenoid to keep on board - but it does seem key switch related as a slight move of the key and it acts normal - I will be prepared for both outcomes though thanks

The problem you are having with the ignition switch is common , as Fred pointed out the ignition is from an early 70s C10 pickup truck it has be used by many RV manufacturers and has been known to be problematic .
One of the biggest killers of this type of switch is extra weight hanging on the key !ike a key ring full of keys.
It's not uncommon tofi d that not only the switch is defective but sometimes the plug will melt as well it's worth checking before ordering your parts.
Here are some part numbers to work from
Ignition tumbler..........AC Delco # 695450
Ignition switch............AC Delco #12322801. OR. Standard Auto Products # US84T

Our old '84 Pace Arrow had the same or similar Delco switch; as Eric says it's a common build for many if not most coach manufacturers. Ditto for headlight switches. Our PA had issues with both, and the parts were readily available at reasonable price from junk yard GM vehicles, especially if you removed it from one yourself, saving the junk yard guys the trouble. It's kinda like the standby "Ford" solenoid that's been around forever and used or copied universally; my first car '53 Customline used them as did our '52 Ford 8N tractor. Easy to get at and easy to replace! Your 12v electric bay solenoid is an example. Only relatively recently have electronic versions appeared that aren't subject to mechanical wear/carbonization.
Ignition (and headlamp) contact points easily overheat under the rare current or high resistance overload, and surrounding supportive plastic melts. If you're lucky there's no fire, just maybe smell and smoke, or perhaps nothing noticeable. But then, with the softened plastic, the contacts slip out of position and fail as a result. Your symptoms can be the result. New parts like Eric references can be a more expensive but best case option to junk yards.

Just information. That ignition cylinder #605450 is Un coded and comes without keys. Most auto parts stores have replacement assembly’s that are coded and have keys. Ask for an ignition cylinder for a 69 to 72 gmc or Chevrolet pickup.
