Title: Keyless entry system controller
Post by: Jon Wells on August 23, 2023, 01:04:15 AM
Hi,

Our 2006 Monterey has gone through a number of electrical issues.  It all started when our Intellitec Multiplex control boards fried.  One of the systems that stopped working about that time was our keyless entry system.  We recently had our Onan generator's inverter replace (one of the many electrical problems that occurred about the same time).  While that was being replaced, I started working on something else in the area behind the steering wheel, when the control module for the keyless system flipped down and it became very obvious why the keyless system no longer worked.  The control module was very fried.  The 16 pin connector was even melted.  There is a sticker showing a model number of MKE-400.  I believe that this was from Magnadyne, however, I don't think they're still making it.  Is it possible to get a replacement?  Is it possible to switch to a different (currently still made) brand?

Thank you,
Jon Wells

Our coach uses a unit from Essex, ke1700. Excellent customer service and it's still a current part. I think keyless entry wiring is pretty standard, a good car stereo shop will be able to figure it out.

on the subject of the keyless entry system>  Is there a way to reset the access code for the outdoor keypad?  our key fob works but we never had a code for the exterior pad

Thanks

Coach Assist has user manuals for various Exxex and Trimark systems. They cover keypad programming.

For our Essex system, the reset is via a small push button behind a panel next to the copilots seat.

Jon, it would appear no one has an answer to your original post.  Try contacting NW RV Supply, and Beaver Coach may have a Magnadyne controller -  both places collect outdated parts.  If you think the old one isn’t melted in critical places, M&M might be able to resurrect it with testing and new components.

One or more of those sources may at least be able to advise you as to any effort toward replacing the controller with a different brand.  Keep us advised since many of us have Magnadyne systems.  I heard Trimark made them for Monaco after “07 or so, and may be a possible retrofit.  Theirs is a 14 pin connector.

I managed to get ahold of a MKE300A controller.  The 400 has a 14-pin connector while the 300A has a 18-pin connector.  I reached out to Magnadyne for the pin-out information which I received fairly quickly.  Now I need to figure out how to adapt the the 300A.  The keypad connection uses a different pad, so I guess I'll need to adapt to that as well.

Despite having the same coach, our controller looks more like Trimark’s.  Go figure.

Joel,
Monaco switched to Trimark for the 07 model year so probably also used them in some 06 models.
