Had to disconnect city water due to upcoming freezing temps. Turned on the water pump, it runs but does not draw water from the onboard tank, which is full. Cleaned the strainer attached to the water pump in case of blockage found it to be unobstructed. Pump is a shurflo manufactured in 2012 installed in a 99 Marquis. Is there another filter or strainer located between the water pump and the water tank? Any hints would be appreciated. I have ordered a replacement but it wont be here for several days.

Is the tank fill valve open or closed?

fill valve is off. It is controlled by a switch in the dining area

If everything worked well before being connected to city water check pump valves as they maybe stuck from excess city water pressure .
The output valves in the pump work as a check valve to keep city water from back flowing into the tank if left long enough they may have stuck in that position.
Or debris may be stuck in the inlet valving of the pump.
Possibly a collapsed suction line from tank to pump or as others have pointed out a bad fill valve will allow the pump to suck air or pump water in a full circle from pressure side to suction side.
Maybe even a hole or broken pipe in line between tank and pump
While you have the pump out to check the valves and diaphragm blow back in the tank line to see if it is blocked for some reason.

what does the electric fill valve look like. Is it the green object in the photo? If so and if it is stuck open preventing the pump to prime would closing the brass valve above this unit eliminate that problem?

That is the fill valve. It is a Red Hat valve. If stuck open, it will pump water in a loop when pump is on. The valve above is the ice maker water line connection I believe. If your water pump is not priming and is running check the supply side to the pump for blockage. If no blockage, then pump is probably bad. Hope this helps.

Thank you Frank, I have checked the supply side and cleaned the filter/strainer which had very little sediment in it which surprises me. If the "red Hat" is stuck open would that prevent the pump from priming and if so, if I turn the valve above the red hat wouldn't that be the same as the red had closing?

You are correct Frank, that valve does feed the ice maker and water filter when in use which I do not use and it is disconnected. I conclude that the pump is bad and a replacement is due here on Saturday. Thank you and everyone else for your input.

As Eric stated, if the Red Hat is stuck open, it could be sucking air from the tank side water line. You could disconnect the discharge side of the valve and install a plug. If still not priming, then pump is probably bad. By closing the valve above the pump, it will have no effect closing the main line as it is basically a T fitting, controlling only the ice maker line.
