Title: Hydro Hot froze/busted
Post by: Fred Cook on January 18, 2024, 11:17:29 PM
It got down to -10 a few nights ago with high winds making it around -25. I had electric heaters on inside and the hydro hot was on and running fine. We always have a cold snap like this every year and never a problem. Well now the system will turn on but it shoots out water from the top of the reservoir when the fresh water pump is turned on. This indicates the copper tubing inside froze and busted….. pushing water out of the system. Does anyone know where I can find a refurbished system or where I can get it fixed? The model number is HHE – 500 –06M.

Fred,
You might want to check the rear of the unit to verify that the leak isn't at the fresh water input or output. Since this area is further from the burner than the internal plumbing, it is more susceptible to freezing and is repairable.

Steve, thanks for your input. The fresh water from the freshwater pump is definitively flowing out the top of the glycol reservoir. The reservoir hose entering the tank is flowing water from the tank into the reservoir when the freshwater pump is turned on. So that pretty much means something inside the tank is busted. Looking for advice on how and where to get it fixed.

De Gerald Services.  501 258 8426  lloydsrvheating.com  I think they are some where in Arkansas unless they are in Quartsite. They worked on my unit in 2022. Very old school

Just want to provide an update. We are returning now to Missouri from Arkansas where Lloyd De Gerald replaced our Aqua Hot. Cost was $8,540. One place I inquired quoted me $16,600 and others were upwards over $10k. Anyway, Lloyd replaced our old Hydra Hot that used glycol antifreeze with a newer rebuilt version 450 DE that uses boiler antifreeze. It comes with a one year warranty, labor and parts. Lloyd did a great job and thus far we are happy. GO CHIEFS!!!
