Title: Dim headlight mod
Post by: Dennis Clevenger on October 09, 2024, 04:18:12 PM
I just got ready to do Roy Muellers headlight mod on our 98 Patriot Tico.  First thing to do is the test to see if the mod will work.  He calls for locating CB-25 on the Ignition circuit breaker.  That is NOT “Headlights” on mine.  The “Headlights” are located to the left on the Battery bar, 3rd connection down.  See attached pics.  So am I still able to do something to make these lights brighter?

BTW, I did polish the lenses this morning with Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish so they may be a “little” brighter.  Any ideas on the Mueller Mod?

Dennis

It will work, just use CB-3 as the source instead of CB-25. When done you will have 14 volts going to the headlights when driving. Fred

I did my Ticonderoga a couple of years ago, and yes it works. pretty simple if you follow the instructions. I have since upgraded to LED's.

I just noticed this post. It is a little old, but maybe someone is still reading it.
I have a 2005 Beaver Monterey Laguna IV with dim headlights. I decided to do the fix that was previously mentioned after our last trip. The funny thing is, I did not correlate it at first, for some reason my dash radio went out. Didn't think that much of it at first, just thought, oh great, something else to fix. The next day we started out and the radio was on. Okay, maybe a short. Then we were driving through some rain, turned on the headlights and the radio went off. Aha, the headlights are shorting out the radio.
A few days later I decided to dig into the dim headlight fix. It appears that it has all been done already. I guess by the previous owner. They didn't use the same relays as was mentioned in the instruction and the wires seem to be in the correct place on the power strips. High and Low beam on 5 and 4. Power wire connected to CB8.
So what would cause the radio to be turned on and off by turning on the and off the headlights.
Maybe they connected the wires to the relays wrong?

Don,
You are on the right track re the relays. I'd verify the wiring to and from the relays per the diagram in Coach Assist and also the type of relays used if they are different from those specified.

Thank you Steve, I was hoping that was the case. I bought the relays that were mentioned in the instructions, with the intention of doing the fix. Then when I saw it had been done, I figured I didn't need to mess with it, until I did. I will just retrace those wires and connect to the new relays. Then I can see the road while I am listening to the radio.
