If you drain the water from the water heater and pipes can you still use the system to heat the inside of the coach?
-
In my coach I will get a overheat warning if I do not have water in the tank and hot water heater. I never considered whether that was correct or not, but I don't need the heater if I don't also need water.
Someone who knows the system better may be able to give you a more definitive answer.

Check page 15 of the Hurricane Owners Manual (in Coach Assist if you don't have one). It shows all hot water is sourced from the water heater.

So what does that mean? I did not drain the hurricane system just the water hot and cold I blew out the lines I want to run the heater because I still have water in the gray and black . I did not have time to dump on the way home and it’s freezing in Georgia now… I do t think it would hurt if it did freeze because the tanks are not full.

If you run the Hurricane any water in the coach shouldn't freeze so you'll need to refill the Hurricane tank. Fred Brooks will be on shortly to give you details as to what to do as he owns a 2000 Marquis with a Hurricane.

Chuck,
I too have a Hurricane system. Proper procedure to would be to refill the water heater and bleed the air out of the system. Next turn on the Hurricane system on diesel. Turn on the thermostat to "heat" and set the temperature to 50 degrees. Make sure the thermostats in bathroom and bedroom are set to 50 degrees also to activate the heat exchanger mounted inside the holding tanks compartment. That exchanger also heats the compartment bays and fresh tank. Hope this helps. Fred

So you can’t run the heater unless there is water in the hot water heater
-
Chuck,
No you cannot run the Hurricane without water. Heated water is what provides the heat.

It has coolant in the hurricane just no water in the plumbing….its the coolest that provides heat..

Chuck,
PLEASE follow Fred's instructions if you want heat in your coach.

I got heat I just wanted to know if it is ok to run it without any water in the water heater . But it’s been running for 4 nights so I guess I’ll be reporting back to y’all if it hurt anything.

Chuck,
I was mistaken. The 50/50 mix of water and boiler antifreeze provides heat for the coach. That is providing your coach heat. However w/o water in the system if you have the water heater switch on you may burn out the electric heating element in the water heater. It would be safer to refill the water heater. If you have the unit running and have the T'stats set for ~50 or so you won't have any freeze issues.
Again, sorry for my confusion.

No problem, I have the water heater turned off at the breaker.
