Title: Ignition switch
Post by: Bob Adams on December 18, 2011, 07:07:18 PM
Does anyone know the brand of ignition switch that Beaver would have used on a 2005 Monterrey? GM, Ford, Chrysler, ???. I know I can call Monaco tomorrow but thought someone might know. Thanks!

Looking at the key should give you a clue. If it has the big square head with the oblong hole for the keyring, cut on one side only, it's probably a GM. It seems to be the most common brand. Picture shows mine.

The ignition switch that was used on my 1998 Monterey and my 2002 Thunder is the GM recessed switch that they used for Chevrolet and GMC trucks from about 1968 to 1972. GM must have made a bunch and had a lot left over to sell to Beaver and or Monaco!

Our 05 Monterey is a GM switch and key.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help. Looks like it's unanimous. FWIW the reason I asked is that I ran across something I hadn't seen before. It's a series of locks that "learns" your ignition key and then you only need one key for a variety of locks. Seems I always have too many keys and looks like it might help cut down on them. Anyway, here is the website if you want to take a peek www.boltlock.com. Again, thanks for the help!
