Title: 3M Mask
Post by: Dennis Crawford on January 10, 2012, 11:56:54 PM
Folks,

I just had the 3M mask replaced on my 2005 Beaver Monterey.  3M recommended a company in North Port, FL...Cool Runnings.  They did a fabulous job.  Unfortunately some paint came off during the process and the repainting was also extremely professional.  I would not hesitate to recommend Cool Runnings for replacement or new 3M mask.  There was a 2006 Country Coach Intrique having their 3M replaced as well.  The phone number for Mark Miller at Cool Runnings is 941-380-7899 .

I spoke to the techs at Crystaltek.us.com about their product that removes the 3M film.  They have 2 types.  They told me to make sure that the headlamps and anything else plastic that would be damaged if the product touches it is taped and covered.  It seems easy and safe and when I get to CA I'll try a small section to see if it works.  I tried taking it off when the surface was warm due to the sun and some of the paint started coming off so I"ll see how this works.

Just a related note that one of the issues with masks applied at the factory or shortly thereafter is that the paint underneath hasn't a proper chance to cure.  When the mask is eventually replaced, the paint may stick in places more to the mask than the coach.

If the cap needs some paint after mask removal, it might be prudent to wait a month or three before applying a new mask.

Joel, how much did they charge to remove and replace the mask?
