Title: Raycor
Post by: Keith Moffett Co-Admin on April 24, 2012, 12:07:41 PM
Does anyone happen to know if the power indicator light on the Raycor control panel should stay on when the ignition is off.  I know Beaver did some things different but the manual says turn the ign. on and the power light comes on.  Mine is on regardless.

Also, how often should the spin off primary filter and secondary filter be changed in the upgraded version of this system with air and water seperation?

Thanks, Keith

My power indictor light on the Raycor control panel is "on" all the time.  I change my primary and secondary filter every year even with the upgraded air/water seperator.

Keith,
I think that all of the SMC era Beavers (1995 - 2002) were wired with the Raycor water separator tied directly to the batteries instead of through the ignition switch. So your condition is normal.

As for the need to change primary and secondary filters. The 2 micron secondary (Cat) filter maintenance schedule list a once yearly change, although I do not change mine quite that often. The 30 micron primary filter (filters out sticks an gravel) does not need to be changed that often if you are using fresh clean fuel. As a fulltimer, I change my primary filter about every 4 years. However if you have any fuel issues like water causing microbe growth (commonly called algae) or any other contamination problems, much more often filter changes are necessary.

Nothing about the Racor upgrade would have changed the service intervals.  All the so-called upgrade did was make it possible to use a current model filter (S32030P) instead of a no longer available one.  There is no reason to expect the service interval to have changed.

Thanks much to all.  I have been changing them too often.
