Title: NAVISTAR RECALL ON TRANSFER 50 A SWITCHES
Post by: LEAH DRAPER on October 08, 2012, 03:03:44 PM
Was on the Safercar.gov website couple of days ago checking on Beavers and came across a recall for certain 2008-2010 Beaver 2009-2011 Monaco  and others manufactured from Oct 25,2007 through August 26, 2010 equipped with an IOTA ITS-50R 50 AMP Automatic Transfer switch.  The transfer switch bus bar and/or electrical connections may be inadequate to handle the electrical load and could over heat and cause a fire and all the consequences of that.

Anybody know anything about this?

Leah,
The subject has been discussed several times on this forum in threads http://forum.bacrallies.com/m-1332861367/s-all/ and http://forum.bacrallies.com/m-1330793917/.

The recall only effects Beaver coaches that were manufactured by Navistar because it is considered an assembly problem and not a product problem. Since Monaco Coach does not exist any longer there is no one to recall the coaches that they built even though the same problem exist in them because they used the same personnel and assembly methods. I know of one fire and two near fires (melted plastic housing) in the coaches that were built by Monaco Coach.

You have two choices if your coach has a IOTA switch, you can either check the switch contacts for proper torque and overheating or just replace it with a heavier built switch in a steel housing like the Surge Guard switch that Monaco formerly used.
