We are in the process of trying to purchase an extended warranty and would like to know if anyone has any opinions, good or bad, on the companies they have dealt with.

I purchased a policy from American Guardian when I bought my coach in 05. They were recommended by the dealer and I didn't shop around. While I can't comment on the comparative cost, they did cover all repairs with no issues. I had one that I authorized and paid for w/o notifying them and they covered it w/o any hassle, even though the terms of the contract allowed them to deny it since I had the work done prior to their authorization.

We purchased an extended warranty policy from ACC last year. Have not had a claim, so can't comment on service. They were at our Las Vegas rally and if enough people (don't remember the number) signed up the deductible dropped to $50. I believe their home office is in Indy or somewhere in Indiana. You may mention us and the deal they gave us at the rally, who knows it might help.

I have the Good Sam extended and had to pay extra labor charges over my deductable just because they considered that the Cat dealer labor rate was too high. So beware before you sign up with them.

Just today I received in the mail a quote from Good Sam's version. $500 deductible for $1600 per year. Gotta be kidding...when we bought the coach we got Monaco's policy for $200 deductible, $1800 for a whole 3 years beyond mfrs. warranty.
I don't recall it ever paying off on any of the myriad repairs since, but we got it mostly for catastrophic loss.

I have ACC warranty for two years and have been vary disappointed in trying to get them to take care of warranty issues. A FMCA member recomended it to me and after having claims with them it has been unpleasant to get them to do something in other works I am not a very happy camper. If I had to do it over again I dont know if I would ever buy extended warranty again .

After a very long time using Good Sam's warranty insurance I cancelled them when they refuse to pay a ligitimate claim. My Nephew who is a lawyer said "insurance companies are in business to make MONEY, NOT PAY CLAIMS! I now insure myself.

I currently do not have an extended warranty on my coach and from this thread, it seems that most experiences have not been good with these products. While I'm not interested in a "bumper to bumper" warranty to cover every item in the coach, I would be interested in an EW to cover the engine, transmission and related components, given the very high cost to repair/replace in the event of a major failure (the recent thread about transmission overheating comes to mind). Is anyone in the group aware of the availability of an EW to cover the engine, transmission, etc.? If so, I would be interested to know what your experiences have been with this type of product.

As most of you know I had a major breakdown last year that cost me a lot of money. I then looked into extended warranties myself and found that none would have covered my expense anyway which involved the engine cooling system. I too decided to drive on without any extended warranty. Just my two cents.

As noted, I bought one when our rig was new in '06, but in all the repair trips I've made since the original Monaco warranty, CAT, Allison, etc., expired, the EW never came into play. $1800+ out the window? Depends on your viewpoint. Though disgusted each time the service writer at BCS told me none of multiple issues were covered, I have to excuse it that it was insurance against catastrophic loss, and be glad I never had occasion to test that coverage.

I would be interested in examples of the sort of things the EW wouldn't cover that you might have thought it would.

One word of caution. There are many "extended warranty" policies that would not have covered Tim's transmission failure because it failed because of the cooler that was not covered by the policy. An "Extended Warranty" is an insurance policy that is drafted in a manner to eliminate claims caused by owner abuse, neglect, or any failure that is caused by a part that is not covered by the policy.
These policies have a predictable average claim cost to the insurance company that their actuaries can calculate, so the policy is priced to cover their claims cost, administrative overhead, and a profit margin for the company. If your failures are above normal on covered items, you save money, however if your covered failures are average or below normal you loose money.
