Title: Girard Wind Sensor
Post by: Brian Herndon on January 14, 2013, 05:06:22 PM
I have one missing wind sensor and one with one missing cup.  Where is the best source for replacement parts?

Brian, I bought mine from Girard.  There is a post suggesting they are available elsewhere. Try a search to see.

Just so you know Girard now uses vanes instead of cups now.

The latest automatic awnings use movement sensors in the awning proper rather than cups on the roof in harms way.  I believe there are kits available for retrofitting to the newer technology, but am not sure which brands and models.  You might check Girard's website in case it is an option you can consider.

Brian, I fashioned a cage around mine to protect it from tree limbs.

Brian, I was lucky and found an entire roof-top unit complete with the weather cups for $100.00 at an awning shop at the  Don-West Flea Market in South Texas.  But all I needed was the cups.  Can you send photo of your protective cage so I can fashion one myself.

Thanks,

I bought a hanging basket, that one lines with moss, @ K-Mart, cut the handle off, painted it white to match the roof, and attached it with silicone sealant to the roof. Been there for 3 years and 30,000 miles plus!!!   Henry
