Just noticed the brake light bar (above radiator access grill) on my 01 Contessa illuminates with a white light rather than red when the brakes are applied. A friend of ours with a unit identical to mine is visiting so we checked his and it illuminated red, as one would expect. Checked part numbers on the lens and they aer identical, both SAE DOT and mfgr (Hella) numbers. The unit is appears to be sealed so access to the bulbs isn't obvious. I found the Hella LED replacement ($85 ouch). The bar is only 10" long and most of the after market bars are 15" or so.
Has anyone else run into this (clear lights in bar)?

Steve, here is an inexpensive replacement LED bar. It mounts right over the existing hole. I've attached a picture of it installed.

Stan,
Thx for the info. I previously checked this out and another source that was referenced in the thread. Problem is that my bar is only 10" long and looks like all the new ones run about 15". The 15-4400 you referenced is too long and also too wide (high) for the earlier Contessas.
Thx, Steve

Problem solved!

How?

Discovered "problem" when friend asked to see the LED brake lights I'd installed. He noted that light bar lit up white when I applied brakes. We then checked his Contessa with me watching brake lights and his lit red as expected. I pulled my bar, saw it appeared sealed with no bulb access and then took part #s, and headed to the web to see if I could figure out what was going on. I'd had some paint work done on the rear cap a while ago so called the shop to see if they had any knowledge of this type of "problem". The parts person noted that they have seen bars where the bulb /lens color has faded so bad that they appear pinkish white. So back to the RV to see if mine was just faded, only this time I had my friend apply the brakes. Light bar came on nice and RED. So, we think one of us must be intermittently color blind, and I decided it had to be him. ;D. He's not buying into it, but it will give him something to think about for the next few days......

How was the timing of the different observations in reference to Happy Hour?

Does he see pink elephants or white? 8)

Observations were prior to happy hour, but I'll check on the "elephant hue" after happy hour tonight. :)

OK, mine measures 13-3/4" long x 9/16" and was wondering if anyones knows where one might find a replacement?

Randy,
My 2000 Marquis has the same light fixture, and the last time that I needed a replacement, I bought one from BCS (Beaver Coach Sales) in Bend Oregon.

Or go over the top with this ( http://ledtrailerlights.com/stt/stt_50-4400.htm ) Lamar did it and added another one higher. They are much brighter than original.

Thanks Gerald, but I believe they quoted me an "Arm & Leg" for a replacement and I felt I still needed them to get around ;) I was hoping someone had a place to get a replacement for less. I just ordered (2) of the #50-4400 LED lights that Steve mentioned for less than the price of (1) from BCS! I'll give them a try.
