Title: Cooling Fan
Post by: Gary Winzenburger on March 19, 2013, 01:30:22 PM
My wife and I just purchased a 1997 Marquis with 400HP Cat. motor from a private owner. When I got it home, I noticed the cooling fan on the rear shroud was unhooked. After turning the diesel motor off, I plugged it in and it ran, but did not quit until I unplugged it after about 5 minutes of running. Is this fan controlled by a thermostat, or is it malfunctioning?

The fan I think you are referring to was meant to vent hot air from the engine compartment to aid in preventing heat build up in the bedroom after you parked. It may have not been a standard feature.

Gary
The fan that you are referring to is on a timer relay. It should start when the engine starts, run any time that the engine is running, and stop 30 minutes after the engine is turned off. It is meant to prevent heat soak from the hot engine into the bedroom.
