1999 Patriot 40' 3126
The air inlet heater works fine at about 10 degrees C., light comes on for about 30 sec., start engine no stumbling or smoke. At about 18 degrees C. The light only stays on for about 2sec. When you try to start it, it stumbles and smokes after it has been running for about 45 sec. it smooths out and runs fine.
Cat manual states the air inlet heater will turn on if the sum of the coolant temperature and the inlet air temperature is less than 25 degrees C.(77 F)
There is no diagnostic codes coming up. Wondering if one of the sensors is working but reading a higher then the actual temperature .
Maybe someone has had this problem or can suggest another senerio
Thank you.

Are you refering to the heater built into the air dryer/filter or is there a air heater I am un aware of?
Thanks

Keith,
The 3126 uses a heater in the intake manifold inlet to heat incoming air as an aid in cold weather starts. This intake heater is the main reason that you should never use ether to start a 3126.
