Title: Does this look ok?
Post by: Stan Simpson on August 01, 2013, 01:20:42 AM
I went to the coach today in anticipation of my electrician coming tomorrow. I bought a 12 gauge extension cord and plugged the coach in to a 15 amp receptacle.

I also took the plate off the top of the generator where the cap for the coolant is and checked the two 15 amp fuses to make sure they were okay, and not the problem. Both were good.

Here is a screen shot of the electrical status when plugged in to a 15 amp outlet. Does this look ok? There is nothing running on 120 except the display on the microwave, the display on the toaster oven, and the flashlight charger. I'm guessing there are some parasitic draws as well.

Thanks,

Stan

Stan,
Looks OK as w/o the ACs running you'll only be drawing current on one of the AC legs. I'm a bit surprised the current doesn't show on leg 1 rather than 2, but that could be related to the problem you are having. If you start both ACs you should again see current on both legs.

That 9 amps looks high to me. I would get a clamp on amp meter an check that I was really pulling 9 amps. It may be you are getting a fault reading on your display an not displaying correct.

I keep mine pluged in her to a 50amp plug an usually read about 3 amps after it is plugged an the inverter has topped the charge off on the batteries plus I keep my fridge on elect when pluged in also.

I only have the charger on. The inverter is disabled. Does that make a difference?

Stan,

That looks OK to me.  You are charging the 12 volt batteries at 49 amps, so you can expect a 9 amp AC draw.  See if the AC amps reduces after the batteries are charged.

Here is the readout from this morning after 19 hours plugged in to shore power in a 15 amp outlet.

Stan,

Everything looks correct to me.  Why are you having an electrician look at it?

Looks normal to me.

Thanks all for your replies.

@ Larry Shirk...if you look at my other post, titled "possible short on Gen Set...or?...it explains the problem we had, and the result of the electrician's visit yesterday.

Happy campers right now!

Stan :)
