Title: Preheat Pump
Post by: Steve Huber on September 25, 2013, 01:47:42 AM
2000 Marquis w/Hurricane. Just finished replacing the water heater and installing a block heat exchanger. Took me a while to eliminate (w/Jim Rixen's help) an airlock in the Hurricane antifreeze system. System appear to be running correctly.

However, I seem to be having another problem. I have 2 recirc pumps in the Hurricane bay. One is the Hurricane antifreeze pump. It runs for specified time whenever I switch the Hurricane On-Off switch on then off, as long as the remote switch is on. It makes no difference what position the Coach Heat and Preheat switches are in.

The Preheat pump does not run (no voltage) under any of the conditions  I've tried; key on, off, engine running. etc. The lamp in the Pre heat switch is good but never lights so it appears I'm not getting voltage to the switch.

Is there some setting I'm missing or do I have a problem?

New coach for me so don't know what "normal" is. My Contessa used hot air as preheat.

Thx, Steve

Spoke w/Ken C at BCS today, He confirmed pump should come on when switch is engaged so I'm missing a 12v source. Ordered a wire tracer to track it down. While I was resting, replaced the kitchen faucet and vanity aerator as both gave very reduced water flow. The amount of garbage in the aerator was surprising. An input water filter is on the list.

Steve,

A "pre-filter" is advisable but be aware that here in AZ ... Yuma right now ... even if using a water softener, the crude coming through the system does build up on the kitchen aerator and shower head.  We have found that a monthly or so removal and cleaning of these is advisable.  Also, soaking them in CLR helps as well.

Good Luck.

Got the Preheat and Coach Heat circuits working! Source of problem was that the Hurricane PC board had been upgraded from a V11 to a V12. The V12 doesn't support these circuits without some wiring mods that weren't made in my coach. If anyone needs more info on how to make needed mods, PM me and I'll provide same.
