Title: Front Torsion Bar Bushing Repair
Post by: Matthew Harger on November 16, 2013, 09:00:06 PM
Looks like I need to replace the front torsion bar rubber bushings (I think this is what they're called) on the coach as they appear to be completely deteriorated.   Does anyone have any experience in doing this or having gotten this done that can make any recommendations.

Matt,
Your Patriot does not have torsion bars. You are probably talking about the control rods that control the axle location as it travels up and down in relation to the coach frame. Some of these bushings are replaceable, but most of them are not. You have to replace the whole rod. If you think the bushing is bad because of the cosmetic appearance of the outside edges, you may be wrong. As long as the bushing has no looseness between the internal sleeve and the rod itself, it is OK.

We had to replace the whole rods on our 1997 Patriot. Had to loosen the LP tank for the one behind the axle.
