Title: Kenwood GPS and Backup Camera
Post by: Michael Rump on July 11, 2015, 05:03:30 AM
All,

Problem:
Changed out chassic batteries, and lost GPS and camera function.  After many attempts I was able to regain the backup camera and the ability to view the coach performance metrics (Aladdin).  Have lost all GPS capability.  The touch screen can not be calibrated for proper touch response therefore you cannot enter or select the appropiate information to complete the setup.

I have seen where others have replaced the Kenwood with different devices with great success.  After talking to Kenwood tech support, they suggested I take it to a repair facility.  Also have read about Samsung tablets being used as well.
Just trying to decide the best course of action!

Thanks is advance!

Mike,
Before you throw $ at a new GPS system try disconnecting your chassis batteries for about 5 minutes and then reconnecting. I suspect the change over screwed something up in the GPS system. Sometimes a power reset will resolve this.

Mike, Did you hit the master reset button on the Kenwood?     Fred

Steve,

We disconnected the chassis batteries several times but to no avail.

Fred,

I did not know the Kenwood had a master reset button.  Please advise location and I will try.  However, I think I will wait until arriving home whereas I don't lose engine metrics and rear camera capability in route.

Many thanks!

Mike, not sure what model Kenwood you have. Do you have the owners manual in the coach folder? If you have a removable faceplate, it will be a slightly recessed 1/8" hole that you need a paper clip to push. Doing so will reset the unit back to original defalts.   Fred

Hi Fred,

The GPS is a KNA DV2100 with a KDC M 700 backup monitor/radio.  When talking with Kenwood technical support, they mentioned the reset and I am pretty sure we tried it.  Still could not get the touch screen to recalibrate whereas the correct box could be selected for setup.

After we get home, I will be able to try various options to get it back on line.

Thanks for all the help.

Steve and Fred,

Disconnected the batteries several times and tried the reset as well to no avail.  Now I am locked into the security screen, but cannot
get to the "enter or accept" button to get the system to accept the code.  That is main issue in that the screen is out of cal because to select a number you need to hit between two of the numbers and the "enter/accept" is below screen level.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

Mike,
I'm out of ideas. Unless Fred comes up with something, a Kenwood repair shop or replacement unit may be in your future.
Amazon has GPS/BU monitor combos for ~$200-$600. I suspect you could find this with a radio in same price range.

Thanks Steve and Fred.  We will need to make a decision on whether to update or repair.
