I lost the slide topper awning on the curbside bedroom slide in a storm a few weeks back. The window awning brackets were not secured correctly (although in 3 years I have never lowered them) so the entire bracket fell against the side of the coach, pulling the fabric out of the slide rail. The wind must have caught the fabric and ripped it off. However, there is still the part that is the window awning, rolled up in the tube. Apparently it was 2 piece fabric stitched together, because the remaining end has loose stitching and holes. Since then I have been trying to:
1. Figure out the model of each of my slide topper awnings.
2. Find the fabric that will be a close match to the existing color, which I think (?) is tweed.
Picture 1 below is what I think is an Omega II from Carefree, which is what the manual I have says it is. I have exchanged 6 emails back and forth with their customer service, and although the parts list from Monaco says it is part #UJ163EAJB429, Carefree insists that part # is for a SOKII slide topper.
Picture 2 below is the slide topper on the streetside livingroom slide out. I believe its also an Omega II, although a different size.
Picture 3 below is the streetside bedroom slide topper, without a window awning because there are no windows on the slideout. I believe its a SOK II.
Picture 4 below is the curbside living room slide topper which I believe is also a SOK II. There are windows on that slide, but the Carefree Eclipse power awning provides shade for that side.
Picture 5 is the parts list that is on the inside of the bathroom vanity door. I also have a separate one in my owner's packet.
Carefree insists that UJ#s are SOKII slide toppers. I have no manuals on them, but they sent me one. They sent me the part #s for the replacement fabric for the UJ#s and they are for the SOKII.
I talked to parts at BCS and they somehow used their system to search for me. They used the serial number for the P/S bedroom and told me it was an Omga II, and the part #from Carefree for the replacement fabric is TX167EA38.
Can someone confirm what I have based on what you know you have? I would be most grateful.

My Model # Part # all information is located inside the bathroom cabinet door
-
Orman, that is shown in the last picture above. However, Carefree customer service disagrees with the part #s.

On my last two motorhomes, I have had the Omega II awnings and they have been the ones that have the arms like a question mark. They continue to open beyond the topper position and serve as an awning for the windows.

Mr. Simpson
My two street side awnings are the Carefree Omegas with the "question mark" arms - the same as you have. I had both awnings' materials replaced over the Winter of 2013-14 while in Yuma. The Omega awnings act as toppers and window shades; they're an all-in-one awning. When the slide extends, then the awning acts as a topper. In addition, you can manually pull the awning out another 2 feet or so and down to shade the windows. I was told the "question mark" arms are obsolete and unavailable from Carefree, but the RV repair shop in Yuma that replaced my two awnings' materials has a supply of them.
My one curb side living room slide has two separate awnings. The topper awning is a separate awning from the shade awning and is a Carefree, but I don't know the model. I know the shade awning attached to the slide just below the Carefree slide attachment is an automatic Girard. The curb side bedroom awning (no slide on my curbside bedroom) is another model of automatic Girard.
I will run out to the coach shortly to get specifics and modify this message with the "pertinent poop" if I can find some.

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping someone with a Monterey will reply. My problem in getting replacement fabric is part of the fabric is gone, so I can't measure the length. I can measure the width.
Thanks again, Orman, Chuck, and David.

Stan, except for the colour I believe our coaches are identical. I have attached the model numbers of the Carefree awnings and a copy of the cover page of the service manual. Unfortunately about the only information not contained in the manual is the length of the material required. If this is not the manual you have please let me know and I'll forward a copy.
This afternoon I'll attempt to measure the material length and post ASAP.

Stan, is it possible that the stitching you see where the material ripped is where the awning was sewn around the poly Rod and the rip occurred right at the coach at the awning rail? Is the poly Rod still in the awning rail?
If this is what happened you have all all the awning material rolled up on the roller sans the inch or two that forms the pocket or hem for the poly rod.
Just a thought.

Holy cow Bob, your part #s are different than mine, and agree with what the lady from Carefree keeps insisting they should start with, i.e, the P/S BDRM should starts with VE, like your does. Mine starts with UJ. You can see my numbers in the picture attached to my original post above. I can only speculate the tech who made up my sheet simply typed them wrong. Thank you so much for this information.

Try to call Chris T. at www.stonevos.com (352) 942-0224
He is a Monaco owner and has parts for the Omega toppers. His web site has a wealth of information.

Hi Stan,
I belive Bob is probably correct about the topper portion of your awning being rolled up into the canister unless you have fabric that actually has evidence of being torn. The loop stitching on all of your toppers will eventually fail from sun exposure. I had all of my stitching replaced with a stronger more durable thread last year (labor was about $700). In as much as your part #'s for both rear toppers are the same I suspect your parts sheet was intended for a 3 slide unit. You will notice the part # for you front combination slide topper / awning does start with VE. If I remember correctly the combination topper / awning is one piece of material, not separate. I believe the material is Sunbrella, but I don't know the exact length for your awning. All of these Omega awnings should always be locked before traveling otherwise any of them could bellow out with the same result. I suspect most mobile awning repair folks can solve your problem, but availble replacement parts for the Omegas are limited so you will want to be sure they are familiar with these awnings.
Good luck,
Roy

Bob,
I've gone on top of the coach and had Becky put the slide out a little way. I grabbed the loose end and pulled it to the end. There isn't enough fabric to cover the slide and make a 2 ft window awning. Before I order any replacement fabric, I'm going to take it apart to check for sure. If there is enough there, I'll just have it re-stitched and buy some polyrod.
Thanks,
Stan
Edit: I'd really appreciate a measurement of the length of the fabric. I know the width, its 96 inches.

Stan,
I highly recommend www.stonevos.com . I received the 4 Omega II awnings from StoneVos for our 2004 Monterey last Wednesday.
I have now replaced 3 of the 4 awnings and am extremely pleased with the fabric, construction, look and fit. The 4th awning will be replaced tomorrow.
They are very knowledgeable about our RV's and how to measure and order their product to get a proper fit.
The awnings are double stitched and the thread they use has anti-UV properties.

Stan,
It appears you have 2 SOK II's , and 2 Omega II's. StoneVos does not need the part numbers to supply fabric for your slide awnings.
The website shows how to measure and what measurements are needed to order fabric. They also have replacement arms in stock ( question mark arms )
Chris can help with any other questions you might have. I e-mailed him pictures of our awnings to confirm type and fabric color before ordering ours.
He told me what fabric I needed to match our existing awnings and the fabric received was an exact match.

Stan, the length of awning material from the poly rod in the rail on the RV to the poly Rod in the roller is 48 inches. This does not include the inch or so at each end to encircle the poly rod. I am quite confident that my awning is the Carefree Omega II.
I look forward to hearing how you make out. Good luck

Its rained here for two days straight. As soon as we get dry, I'm going to go measure it again. Thank you, Bob. I will let you know how I make out.

Update:
It stopped raining long enough for me to pull the thing apart. I found the part # and serial number on the roller tube after the fabric was out. My part # is VE092EAEA179, and the color is linen tweed. So, Monaco put the wrong part # for that slide topper/window awning on my parts sheet. (see picture in my original post)
The good news is that all of the fabric is there. There are no tears or holes except where the old stitching was. I just have to have it re-stitched and re-installed.
Thank you everyone for the help. Very much appreciated. By myself, I would still be arguing about the part # with Carefree of Colorado. Can't say enough about how great this forum is.
-
That's great news Stan. Be sure to inspect your three other toppers, all of mine were close to failing when my right rear topper tore loose at this weather exposed seam. It might be cheaper to have them all restitched at the same time. I don't believe my coach has ever been under cover so yours may be in better shape than mine were at 8 yrs.

Good news! I found the local, former Monaco brands dealer, had 15 feet of polyrod in stock and sold it all to me for $1 a foot. The only other place I could find it, was inside new fabric, from all of the vendors mentioned in previous posts. And then I found a tailor who has lots of experience stitching flags and other large fabrics, so he's going to re-stich the fabric for me, cost; $20.00. With Becky's help, I can re-install it myself. So, I'm thinking a potential $600 job ended up being about $35.00...not including my $500 an hour labor. I'll pay that some day! 8)

Stan,
If you can get the person who stiches to use Tenara Gore Tex thread you will never have a problem again. It is the only thread that holds up and is guaranteed for life. There are others that say UV resistant but they will fail typically in 3-5 years. I had my slide covers re-stiched with Tenara 5 years ago and they are all just fine. Most shops do not use this thread given a spool is $109 but with all the work involved in stitching and removing and reinstalling the slide covers I would never use anything else. There is a marine canvas shop in Pensacola area where I live that handles a lot of boat canvas work and in 20 years of being in business he has found no other thread that will last in the gulf marine environment but Tenara.

We are getting to old to do things twice :-)

Update:
With Becky's help, we removed the slide topper fabric from the brackets, measured it; its 96 in x 36 in. Took the fabric to a guy who makes custom flags and can stitch heavy material. He charge me $30 and it came out great. Becky and I re-installed the fabric on the roller, and to the side of the coach. When we put the slide out, it covers the top, and there is still enough fabric in the roller so when we put the awning out as well, the window is amply shaded.
One small problem not covered in the Omega II installation manual. The strap used for pulling the awning down with the hook is not wound around the roller the correct way. I put the fabric into the a slot in the roller and the strap into another slot on the roller. The slot is too small for both of them to go in to the same slot. Now when I put the slide in, the fabric gets caught up in the strap, impeding a smooth retraction of the fabric back in to the roller.
Has anyone done this re-install, and can you tell me which slot the strap goes in, and which way should it wind?
Thank you,
Stan

I had the streetside living room topper replaced and the part was"ZVN152EA29 Carefree awning material 152 in. "
Cost was $320 w/$20 for freight and $160 labor. It has the ? arms and will serve as a window shade although I must mention that getting the awning to the extended position to shade the windows is not at all easy. I have to pull the awning out before extending the slide or I won't have the ability to do it.
