Title: Noisy Dash Fan
Post by: Ron Johnson on December 18, 2015, 08:38:51 PM
I think the dash fan is about to die .. sounds like the bearing is shot. Can this fan be accessed by taking the driver's side dash off? Or do I have to disassemble the console where the Bose system, drawer and heater access are? Any advice is welcome .. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Ron,
Fan should be located under dash just to driver's side of center console and is relatively accessible. Fan is mounted to housing by about 4 Phillips screws. Before removing, mark location of fan to housing so you can put it back in same location. Fan motor is probably a VDO and available at most auto parts stores. I got mine a Auto Zone.

Ron, on my 2002 Thunder it is behind the CD player in the center console. Remove the drop down door, then remove the CD player and the blower motor is right there. As stated before, mark the position then remove. I was able to put some 3 in 1 oil on both the front and rear bearings and all has been well now for 6 years. While you have it out be sure to tighten the squirrel gage on the motor shaft. Marty

Thanks so much guys .. we just arrived in Denver and listened to the noisy bearing for 2 days so .... one way or the other I'll get it quieted down. I've said it before but .. this forum is amazing .. Merry Christmas.
