Title: Onan QD 10K Won't Run
Post by: Jerry Emert on June 12, 2016, 09:09:00 PM
The adventure continues.  Today getting ready to move to Grand Junction I tried to start the genny.  It will start and run for 1-5 seconds and then it quits.  Fuel over 3/4s, oil half way up the stick and coolant at the min level.  At the genny switch I got a code of "45."  a few minutes later I tried from the cab again and got a code of 33333 until it stopped assuming thats a "33."  Any ideas that an amateur DYIer can handle?
Thanks as always.

Jerry, mine did the same thing and it was an overheat issue.  Turns out the fan belt was loose and slipping.  The other possibility is the temp sensor that also has a rep for failing but the fix is still the same.  Gen set must come out.

Hopefully your issue is something more simple.

Jerry,
You can call an Onan service center and discuss those codes. They will have a good idea what is happening. I have had an overheat code like Dick mentioned but it takes 5 minutes or more for a cold engine to overheat from a slipping belt. Once heated then just 30 seconds or so after a start. My expectation is that it is the electrical side monitoring not being right given the fail is in a few seconds.

Thanks Ed, from my research also it looks like a control issue is not providing the continuing "run" 12V signal.  Might be simple but good chance it's the control board.  Stuff happens and why I bought the Extended warranty (insurance).  I'll update when I know.

!700 dollars removing the generator and finding a "pushed pin" in one of the power plugs.  Most of that removing the generator to get to the wiring.  I had the 1500 hour service done 460 hours early to avoid removing it again if I can help it.  That includes the service.

You may want to check to see if any of the spade connectors inside the access door has worked loose.  They had issues with these type connectors.  I had to reconnect several over the years.

I had the 1500 hour service done since they had to take the gen. out of the coach anyway.  I hope there is nothing loose now after 1700 dollars!  But you know how it goes.
