You can use the heat pumps, powering them with 50amp shore power, or running the generator. They will function as long as the ambient temperature is 43 degrees Fahrenheit or more. I have always played safe and turned them off when the temp falls below 45.
They are not connected in any way to the Hydro/Aqua Hot. Separate units.
P.S. I read somewhere that Aqua Hot is now offering to rebuild Hydro/Aqua Hot units. In the past they claimed it couldn't be done.

KC, We run one heat pump on 30 amp service but remember that the start up for a heat pump require's 14 to 19 amps. So you must manage electrical usage. Think of it like running only one air conditioner on 30 amp service.

That is correct. We are buying a 2002 Contessa. The dealer found the Hydro Hot was not winterized properly and was leaking. Aqua Hot told the dealer it could be rebuilt for $6,000 something but the dealer convinced the owner (it was on consignment) to get a new Aqua Hot that was $8,000 something. So it can be rebuilt, for a price.
