Title: AUTO GENERATOR START
Post by: Roger Bowton on November 10, 2010, 08:55:02 PM
I have an '06 Monterey, and am having a problem with the AGS. It is enabled, shows the steady green "ready" light in the bay, and starts when the test switch is pressed, but not when the battery voltage drops . I now have the start point set at 12 volts after trying several settings.  It appears that the battery reading is not getting to the ATS switch, but I can't find it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
Roger

Other settings may be overriding the AGS.  What is your Quiet Time set at?  A.M./P.M. correctly set?

I had a lot of trouble with our AGS, mostly a learning curve.  Getting the control over the entry door and the master control module in the electric bay all on the same page took some doing, and a lot of frustrating times when the generator came on for no apparent reason, out of the blue;  or wouldn't come on when it should have.  Setting the start voltage too low is a common error.  Bend techs recommend 12 volts as I recall.

I had to read and reread the manuals (I think there are 2) for the system many times to get it working as designed.  It was a study in automated convenience aggravation.

I have the quiet time off and  Am/pm is correct and all is aligned with interior settings.

Is your Run Time Hours knob on the controller in the bay set at 2 hours as it should be?  If it is set fully counterclockwise, that defeats both the temperature and voltage starts.  Also, there is a 2 minute delay between the sense of a low voltage condition and the generator start, but you've probably given it that much time already.

I didn't know about the two hour setting.  You are right, I have it set all the way counterclockwisw. I'll give it a try this week.

Thanks

Has anybody tried out the aftermarket auto starters?  I have a 98 Patriot and was thinking about adding this feature.  Any feedback?  Thanks, Mike

Setting the clock made no improvement

You might check that the auto-gen is wired to the house batteries.  On our 2008 Contessa and I understand many 2007 Contessas it was wired to the chassis batteries, i.e. no voltage drop to auto start.
