Title: Big dark spot under front end of coach
Post by: John Jahr on November 25, 2017, 06:59:31 PM
2005 Monterey 3 slides 400HP

Always when you are ready to leave something shows up.

In this case a dark spot under the front end of the coach. It starts about 6" inside of front right tire from about the back end of the steps. It goes
in towards the center of the coach about 3 ft and back about 3 ft.

What may be leaking?

Again in help is appreciated.

Lots of things!

One is the fuel filler hose.  They get old and crack.  If you parked with full fuel some may have leaked from the hose or were it attaches to the tank.

Another may be the hydraulic reservoir from the pump that operates the slides.

Touch your finger in it.  Smell like diesel, then diesel.  Red and oily, then Dexron.  Watery but not oily, then coolant.

My first guess, given the location forward of the right front tire, is Dexron hydraulic oil leaking from the slide/leveling pump, one of the slide/leveling manifolds, or a leaking hydraulic hose.  We have had to replace two hoses in 5 years.

I had something similar once that I thought might be from the fuel tank vent, but was just that a tech had failed to snug up the filter after changing the genset oil.  As Bill notes, the fuel hoses can go faulty with time, as did both the vent hose and filler hose on our old Pace Arrow when it was about ten years old.  Also the slideout solenoid/pump/tank unit is commonly mounted between the genset and the steps.
