I hope my postings/questions are not becoming a nuisance. But as a new coach owner I have a lot of questions.
This time, I'm looking at the cruise control on the Smart Wheel. There is an On/Off button, a Set, and Res button.
I wanted to test the "High Idle" feature, but it does not appear to be working. However I'm not sure if the Cruise is in the "On" position. I don't see any light anywhere indicating it is on.
Is there something that is supposed to light up when the Cruise Control is turned on? If the button on the Smart Wheel is supposed to light up, I don't see anything and there is nothing on the instrument panel lighting up.

Your Aladdin will indicate that the cruise is on.

there is a green light in the dash right side just above the odomator that cones on if it's on. The high idle won't work if the jake brake or the foot brake are on.
Hope this helps.

I didn't notice that - I'll look more closely.

Another good tip. Thanks. I need to remember to start looking at that display more.

I have no cruise on/off light. Mine is also just the opposite of Hal's. I have to have the Jake brake on for the cruise control to work including high idle. That drove me crazy when I first bought the coach because after reading the comments here I never even thought to turn on the Jake. i just thought the cruise didn't work. These beasts are all just a little different!

Thanks Jerry, I'll try that tomorrow.
It would be easier if the manual covered everything a new owner needs to know - but thankfully we have this forum.

Mike, not only does my Aladdin indicate that it's on, it tells me what speed it is set on. Enjoy your coach, it has a lot of cool stuff.

If you have one of the coaches with an Aladdin Jr instead of the full Aladdin (my 2007 Contessa has the Jr) there is no indicator. I added the Silver Leaf that displays through anetbook on the dash and see the cruise control there.

No Cruise on light on my 2005 Patriot that I can see; Aladdin, yes.
While we are dreaming, I'd like to mount a remote LED in a visible location to tell me when I am in ECON on the Allison. The little recessed LED on the shifter pad is just about impossible to see during the day.

As others note, the Aladdin's engine screen on the highway should show you among other things your selected gear, actual gear, actual speed, and if the cruise is on the speed selected by that. A lamp also activates on our dash display. A larger engine like a C12 or 13 I'd expect to have an engine brake (aka Jake Brake), but a smaller C9 like ours will sport an exhaust brake (Pac-Brake), an entirely different animal. I can't speak to Jerry and Hal's divergent engine brake experience, but if the cruise is on, our exhaust brake is locked out.
Yes, Bill, I've griped about the tranny pad placement on my rig also. Why they put it where it's facing straight up and forward-most on the side panel is beyond me. You have to look away from the road longer to lean forward against the seat belt, and stretch to the left to see it clearly, esp. if the sun is in your eyes or something. If I ever got ambitious enough I'd engineer an aluminum or cherry adapter between the side panel and entire cover/switch plate that angled 30 degrees toward the wheel, so all switches were easier to read, and the front with the pad angled 30-45 degrees back. Ahhhh, dreams. Fortunate are coach owners, or trucks, with tranny pads mounted actually facing the driver.

Yes, I have the Aladin and it does show whether Cruise is on or off. There is no other indicator (dash light) on my rig as some others have also reported.
My Cat C13 has the engine brake (i.e. Jake Brake). I've been reading the engine manual and studying the wiring diagrams regarding how this wired.
The engine brake is tied into the Cruise Control circuit and functions differently depending on whether Cruise switch is On or Off. It will go into a "Latching" or "Coast" mode (depending on how programming was setup) with the Cruise On, and work in Manual mode when the Cruise switch is Off.
