BCS want $3k for 1000 hour service on our Onan 8k QD. Seem like a lot. If genny is running OK is it necessary? Is $3K the norm for this service? Options? TIA

Jeff,
Other than valve lash adjustment and injector service, the rest can be done by the owner. Biggest job would be the belt replacement, which should be done in any case. Suspect cost is run up by labor rate as most of the tasks are not difficult but time consuming. There are number of good shops in the Bend area so may pay to spend some time on the phone.

I took my coach to Cummins in Ocala Fl to have the 1000 hr service done. They told me $1000 for the service. After arriving a day early and spending the night with power in a field behind their shop, they took me in at 8 am. Mine is in the driver rear compartment and they had to take the 75ooQD all the way out to service. They found metal magnetic chunks inside the case and after inspection the rotor and armature were messed up. Ihad no indication of any issue before taking it in. Ended up with a $2800 bill when finished. New rotor and stator assemblies plus all the clamps, hoses, and belt required for the 1000 hour service. Good luck to you!

Jeff, we waited until 1500 hours to have the 1000 hour service done on our 10k generator. Cummings in Coburg Oregon did the service for $ 1165 in August of 2016. Experienced good service and and well trained techs.

We had a run issue on our 10K last summer. Stopped in Grand Junction Co. for service at Cummins Coach Care. Since they were taking the genny out we had them do the 1500 hour service 400 hours early. The fix was just a electrical connection. The entire service was about 1500. I have been very impressed by Cummins CC over the last 3 years. Good luck with yours.

Cummins/Onan has 30+ "Coach Care" locations. It has been a few years, but the one in Coburg, OR was very good to us.
