Title: Fuse for the 12V Power (cigarette lighter) under the dash location?
Post by: Stan Simpson on June 14, 2018, 05:16:10 PM
I have a 4 port power pack plugged in to the 12V cigarette lighter port under the dash. I have the TST tire monitor display, Garmin, iPhone charger, and the Brake Buddy break-away read-out plugged in to them. The 4 port power pack has it's own on/off switch.

While testing for a new item, I plugged it in to one of the ports, and it everything shut off after about 2 seconds when I turned the switch on. I checked the individual fuses on each item, none were blown. I checked the fuse on the power pack itself, and it's not blown.

Is there another fuse somewhere? Perhaps on the panel in the bathroom under the breaker box? For me those are not labeled.

In the front electrical run box, there is a relay named "power port" at C9 on the schematic. Could that have failed?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

My 12 volt fuse panel is not marked also but with a bright flashlight I con look at all the fuses to see if any are blown without removing them.

Stan,
Easy way to check is to switch that relay with another one and see if the 12v returns. It sounds like you overloaded the circuit with the new appliance. Consider running a separate wire (12awg minimum) from the 12v buss in the electrical bay and installing a 2nd power port.  On my 07 the dash 12v power outlet is fused with a 10A fuse. If yours is fused, it is probably an in line behind the center console dwr.

Stan pull the drawer out and look around for another 12V supply.  I pulled mine the other day and there is a spare pair of 12V wires that are not connected to anything.  I didn't check to see if it is live but thought it could be used for a couple USB chargers or something in the future.

Stan,
On the 05 Monterey dwgs it shows CB9 as the power port circuit breaker. It's a thermal breaker that  will trip when the current draw is too high, causing heat and it resets after it cools down. If you get the 12v back after a bit, this is probably what tripped, rather than a fuse blowing.

On my 06 Monterey it’s circuit breaker CB9 too.  If your bay lights are not working while the dash port is out of commission, the breaker is the likely issue.  Otherwise there may be an in-line fuse as well, just to the port and behind the drawer, as Steve notes.

Update: I diddled around with the plug on the 4 port adaptor, and after awhile, I noticed the cap was not tight, and probably not allowing the spring to hold the contact to the hot service.

All is good now. Thanks for the advice all.

Glad to read that you located the problem Stan.
Regarding the fuses in the 12 volt panel below the main electrical box, a bright red led illuminates directly beside a fuse if it's blown.
