Title: Looking for diagnostic port
Post by: Bill Staley on July 05, 2018, 04:57:38 PM
Good morning all.  Hope everyone had a great 4th.  I am looking to install the Silver leaf VMSpc on our '05 PT Richmond 42' with the C13 525 hp engine.  Trying to find the Diagnostic port that will need to be connected to the VMSpc system.  Any ideas where it should be.   Haven't found it around the steering column.  Wondering if it may be in the engine compartment.  And if so, how to connect it.

Do you have a removable panel on your dash?
If so, there should be a metal plate just under the panel with the diagnostic connecter.
There is another diagnostic connector located at the battery bank compartment.

Bill,
The data port is sometime confusing as there are two side by side and many times not marked. You will see a 6 pin, sometime marked J-1708 and a 9 pin J-1939. In most cases the data Port you want is the 6 pin J-1708. The other is 9 pin j-1939 which is the Allison transmission data port.  Toward the end when Caterpillar stopped supplying engines in motorhome they started using a 9 pin J-1939 data connector.
