Title: Splendide 2000 Leaking
Post by: D. Wendal Attig on August 01, 2018, 07:02:25 PM
Hi, all of you clean clothes appreciators,

Yesterday we discovered that our Splendide 2000 was leaking and noticed some dripping at the turn in the discharge hose where it enters the unit. I pulled the unit out into the main bathroom area, took the back off and discovered what I thought might be a loose clamp where the discharge hose connects to a pump. In that area only I saw some soap scum under the connection from the pipe to the pump that I thought confirmed my suspicion.

After cleaning and inspecting the hose for any cracks, deterioration, obstructions, etc., nothing appeared to be wrong except the length of the hose was about 12" too long when inserted into the standpipe.  The output of the pump was cleaned and visually inspected for any cracks. None were found.

Next, the discharge hose was cut shorter and reinstalled, thread lock (blue) used to keep the clamp from loosening due to machine vibration in the future.  After fully reinstalling the machine, we ran a short cycle with water and observed no supply line leakage under pressure and no discharge hose connection leakage. The discharge function was observed and fully operational.

No Runs, No Drips, No leaks......apparently for several minutes. Put the closet back together.

So, we ran another load of normal wash, however even though the dial indicated the entire cycle had run, the machine was still full of water. this morning  Hmmm.

Quick removal of the access panel showed water had leaked again. in the area of the discharge hose connection. Supply lines showed no leakage---solid connections.  No popped circuit breakers.  So we ran the spin cycle again and observed that the discharge was functioning normally, but could not clearly see the elbow that turns the discharge pipe through the back of the unit to the inside and pump to observe whether water was coming from that source, although I saw no dripping.

I'm stumped. Any ideas or experience would help.

Thanks,

D.

Lots here know way more than me.

Way back in the cobwebs of my brain something regarding that discharge hose rings a bell. It's extra long for a reason. Something about creating an automatic siphon of the water upwards in the stand pipe. If its longer, the siphon will not reach the top.

D,
Over the last 18 years I have had to replace 2 Splendide water pumps for leaking shaft seals. Check the area where the shaft enters the water pump.

Thanks Gerald. Based on your input, I located what appears to be a Replacement Pump Gasket/Lubrication Kit #116509746G which might remedy the problem without having to totally replace the pump. Apparently, this is fairly inexpensive and relatively easy to do. I'll see if I can figure out where to get this, will try it, and let you know how it turns out.  (Instructions from Splendide are located here: http://www.splendide.com/service/1055_Pump_Seal.pdf)

D,
The pump leaks that I have had have both been from the shaft seal, and it is not included in the kit that you listed. Even though the last one I replaced was 5 or 6 years ago, Splendide did not service the shaft seal at that time.
