did a search and found no answers. Approximately how many gallons of coolant in a 3126 installation?
-
Rick,
Most 3126 installations in a Beaver are listed at a 7.5 gallon cooling system, but a drain and refill will take less.
My Marquis was listed as a 12 gallon cooling system, but a drain and refill only took 10 gallons because of the coolant in the bottom of the block and the coolant loop to the front of the coach for dash heat and the hydronic heating system that would not drain through the radiator drain cock.

thank you! I have no idea what was in it - t'was red stuff, but when the tank failed I had to make due with Supertech. I bet it's only been changed once if at all, so it's well past time.

The original coolant was likely the Prestone green ethanol. If yours was red it was likely the extended life coolant which is good for 6 years or 60K miles as I recall. The extended life didn't require adding coolant lube every couple years.

Interesting - so in '99 they didn't have ELC yet? Given that the CAT ELC is stupid expensive, was wondering if anyone is running the Chevron Delo product, which on the surface seems to meet the same specs. I'd get the CAT if there was a dealership in ridgecrest, but at least 90 miles to one. And suppliers online are charging $18/gal for shipping the cat product, free with prime for most everything else.

Rick,
Any ELC that meets CAT EC-1 spec should be OK.
