My worst nightmare happened this evening, the RV caught fire!! It was unreal, fire started outside of the freshwater tank, will assess where we stand in the morning. Something went wrong with electrical after we went camping this week. Thank you for everybody for all the advice these past few months, maybe we weren't meant to own a rig.

Oh man. Hope everyone is ok. Must have been terrifying.

The wife and I and dog are okay. Will get RV tech out hopefully tomorrow or Monday and assess the damage.

Glad all are ok Jason. Glad to help in any way we can. Keep us up dated.

Jason,
I am so thankful you are all okay. Hope you can find out what caused the fire, get it fixed and get back on the road. Absolutely the number 1 fear of all people who own a MH is fire. I want to see you back on the road and meet you at a rally or two. Good luck with the RV Tech. I know others who also had a fire and many of them got back on the road.
Take care and evaluate carefully.

Weren't you on the Oregon Coast? Where are you now?

We live in Reedsport; in the RV, I run the local mortuary. Hopefully tech can come out tomorrow and assess the damage before we call our insurance company. Fire was contained to basement compartment holding (ironically) the fresh water tank. Maybe the tank sensors sparked or something.

I have read about the wires on the Transfer switch loosening over time - which causes resistance and heat build up that can cause a fire. It is recommended to check the wire retaining screws/lugs for tightness every couple of years.
Is your shore/generator transfer switch located in/near the compartment with the fresh water tank?
