When I had the cooling system changed over to ELC 4 years ago they put Rotella ELC (red) in the system. I've been trying to stick with that when I top off the system. I've been wondering if I can use any red anti freeze or should I stick to the Rotella? Thanks

Jerry,
You are probably OK if the coolant meets CAT's EC-1 spec. That said, I'd try to stay with the original Rotella if possible.

My mechanic at our local CAT dealer did the switch to RED a year ago. I bought a gallon of RED coolant (Delo) from BCS to have on hand. I've filled the overflow tank using the Delo Red, no issues. I don't know if the CAT dealer used CAT RED or Delo. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think RED is RED and all should meet the CAT RED spec. (I'm guessing here!)

Bill,
There are several makes of red engine coolant that do not comply with the Cat EC-1 specification. Most of them are targeted at Japanese built cars especially the Toyota lines. So do not use red engine coolant in your Beaver unless it complies with the Cat EC-1 specification.

Only purchase Cat EC-1 coolant in sealed Cat containers. I have ordered mine straight from Cat. Also I only use only Cat filters.

Here's a pretty good article about coolants for heavy duty trucks. Also see 'Color Key' chart at bottom of article.

Sounds like a good idea but will it mix with Rotella ELC (red?)
