Does the fan have to be taken off to change the belts on my 1996 Beaver Monterey? Serpentine for main and v belt for water pump
-
I have a 2001 Contessa with the 3126B CAT. When I did mine the serpentine belt fed over the fan and installed it. After removing both install the wp belt first then feed serp belt around and over the fan to install.

Mark,
No, the belts on your 96 Monterey are replaced just like LaMonte described for his 2001 Contessa.

Thanks for the help. Got the belts changed. Considering carrying a spare Water pump as they say it is a week point of these motors.

Do you have a side radiator? It looks like it would be a pain in a rear radiator.
If you decide to carry a spare, you should consider having one ready to install with all the fittings and plugs installed.

Mark,
On the rare occasion that you have a water pump failure on a 3126, the vast majority of the time it starts as a slight leak from the weep hole at the bottom of the water pump, it is rarely an emergency repair situation, and not something that you want to do beside the road when dealing with catching that much coolant. Since the water pump is readily available at any Cat dealer, and there is a Cat dealer in most large towns, I would recommend that you concentrate your limited spare parts inventory to higher failure rate items like blubs, alternators, belts, and filters.
