My entry steps will not retract.
Any suggestions

On the door frame (jamb) side of your door, about halfway up you should find two plungers. On the door itself, opposite the plungers are two 'striker' plates. Take a pencil eraser and or some rubbing alcohol and clean the striker plates. The plungers act as a switch to tell the door is open and its time to put out the steps.

Good call Bill. Not every one picks up on that simple fix.
Gary, you have the Lippert / Kwikii step? Our manual says clean the mechanism track and all with mild soap and a stream of water. Underneath as well. I did the tracks then used a mild wire brush the clear the rust etc and lubed with dry lube. Any lube that will not hold dirt so no lithium .
Underneath is the motor, actuator arm and flat drive gear. Make sure no rocks are stuck in it and clean and relube. There are two magnet switches under there that should be fairly clean too. They look just like the ones at the bottom of the entry door frame.
Hope Bills fix above does the trick then the rest is just maintenance.

Check the ground wire under the step. Same problem several times, especially after going over some rough roads. It gets loose. I re-did it, and tightened it down with a lock washer and loctite. No problem since.

If you work on that ground be conscious of where your hands and arms are placed if the steps are out.
