Title: Two I hope simple electrical issues
Post by: David T. Richelderfer on August 10, 2019, 01:45:33 AM
1. The drop-down TV won't dropdown.  It worked fine the last time I used it... which was in April.  We have been home since April with the coach sitting in the driveway plugged into 50 amp.  I switched OFF and ON all the 12v breakers in the 12v panel in the bedroom.  I pulled the TV drop-down toggle switch out of its place in the wall cupboard, pulled the two blade connectors off the toggle, and checked the voltage across the two wires -  10.8 to 10.9 volts.  It should be over 12 volts, I believe, but at least there is power there.  Is 10.8 volts too low to actuate the motor to drop-down the TV?  The Aladdin is reporting both battery banks are over 13 volts.  Tomorrow I plan to check the power to the left bus bar and all its connection points in the electrical bay because I assume the power for the TV drop-down toggle switch must come from/through that bus bar.

2. This past winter we had something touching the fan in the front furnace heater unit - the unit between the pilot and copilot seats low down below the dash.  I simply turned off that fan's low-off-high speed toggle switch since we didn't need the heater while in Yuma.  Today I dug into it and tied the rat's nest of wiring up with nylon ties and the fan now turns freely by pushing it with my fingers.  The problem is when I turn on the fan's low-off-high speed toggle switch, the fan won't run at all.  Is there a fuse hidden back in the dash behind that furnace unit to protect that fan motor?  I could feel the wire going into the fan box so I followed it with my fingers for as far as I could reach... and never felt what could be a fuse on the wire.  Oh, I just thought of checking the low-off-high speed fan switch for power and a fuse nearby.  I'll do that tomorrow too.

Thanks in advance for offering your wisdom and/or advice to help me out here... DTR

David; 1. My guess is that your tv lift switch acts as an input to a relay, so it would not have 12v between the two terminals on the switch (again, my guess is that the switch acts as a 'dry' contact input to the lift relay board.) I think Mike Shumack posted some info on the tv lift a while ago, might be worth a search....

2. On our PT, the front AquaHot register (the one you are talking about) needs a screen over the fan blades. Ous has no screen and junk from the drawers above falls directly onto the fan, and boy that makes some noise! So I have to pull the lower drawer out and remove the offending item from the fan, then all works well. You may have a problem with the multi-speed switch, ours is single speed.

David,
Fan problem is either a bad fan motor, bad switch, or bad connection. There is no fuse (to my knowledge).

Hi Dave,
For the tv, Push upward on the forward passenger corner while someone activates the switch. On the cab heat exchanger, it is not uncommon for trash from the manufacturing process to eventually find its way down into the path of the fan blades. BTW the fuse is located inside the control box near the aqua hot. Fred

We had a thunderstorm blow through last evening at about 10 pm - thunder, lightning, rain, lots of noise and flashing.  So, before the storm arrived I went out to the coach to close the roof vents and two windows, and pulled in the automatic awning.  Interestingly, while in the bathroom closing that roof vent, the 110v lights would not go on.  Guess what - the bathroom GFI was kicked out.  When and why that happened I cannot tell you.  But resetting that GFI fixed the TV drop-down problem.  The drop-down system must have a 110v motor and actuation system.  Now I need a 14-year-old kid to come to reprogram my TV because the TV isn't seeing the DISH Hopper signal.

I was hoping the GFI reset would fix the furnace fan.  Nope, it still does not turn on.  BTW, in my original post, I indicated the furnace fan had been encroached upon by some wiring behind the DISH Hopper and Mogul satellite-dish control box.  The fan was not completely stopped by the wires; there was a repetitive ticking noise because the wires were getting "ticked" by the fan blades... yes, making an obnoxious, sanity defying sound.  As I indicated earlier, the fan blades now turn freely and easily using my fingers.  Interestingly, the other two furnace fans in the living room are working fine, but they run off a different low-off-high fan-speed toggle switch.  I shall open the AquaHot and check the fuses there later today.

Thanks for the replies...  DTR
