Erratic Speedometer & Tach
« on: August 27, 2020, 11:26:03 PM »
My tach and speedometer are erratic and hyperactive when in use.  I contacted Beaver Coach Sales and learned that a repair kit was developed by I believe Dan so I bought it for over $100.  When received, it was a couple of wires and a resistor with some very vague instructions.  Cliff note version is that after numerous phone calls with BCS and a face to face the kit was designed from old electrical docs and bottom line is that it didn't do anything to solve my needle fluctuation.  Any ideas or solutions for this issue?

Richard,
Since the tach and speedo get info from different sources and, I assume, your Silverleaf readouts are OK, the problem is probably at the dash. First thing I'd check is the connections on the rear of the gauges. I never had problems with my 00 Marquis but the 01 Contessa had loose connections on a lot of the gauges. They share power and ground. I'd suspect the power connection as it is separate for those 2 gauges while ground is shared with the rest of the panel gauges.

I have taken the speedometer out and checked connections and replaced it so I know those connections are secure.  I have not checked the connections on the tach which i will do this weekend.  Shawn at BCS mentioned something about corrosion on the connectors presumably where all the wiring connectors are in the forward left bay.
Thank you

When we had an 99 PT, the speedometer went crazy and it was the speedometer cable.  Something apparently snapped inside the cable and when replaced it worked again.
Good luck, Roy Warren

My 2000PT is electronic so they must have made a change.  Thank you for the info!
