Door Seal Switch
« on: March 22, 2021, 05:56:25 PM »
Does anyone know who the manufacturer is for the entry door seal on an 07 Contessa? I think it might be Essex but not sure. The switch on mine is broken. See picture.
TIA, Steve

Thanks Bill,
That version doesn't appear to have the spade connections on the back of the plungers. Will look some more to see if I can find one that does.
Apparently one of the plungers seized and caused the damage upon closing the door.
Again, THX!

Thx again! Steve

Steve,

I hope this qualifies as "there's no such thing as a dumb question"...

What does the door seal switch do?  We have an 04 Marquis and it has one too - I think.

I've read that some coaches have some kind of vacuum seal for the coach door but I don't hear or see anything that would indicate my coach has that.

Thank you!

Turns out I had this same exact part break this past weekend. Combination of rust on the contacts and very stiff wires looks like it caused the slide mechanism to bind up when closing the door. I had already replaced this once when I purchase the coach from here --> http://www.nwrvsupply.com/product/16622291.html . Not really happy with how easy this part rusted though.

First replacement only lasted a year and I'm thinking this time I need to make sure to lube the contact slides and I'm going to replace the wires with something more flexible.

Rick,
The switch senses door status. When closed the switch completes a circuit that allows the inflatable gasket around the door to inflate if the engine in running and the transmission is in gear (not neutral).

Gene,
I checked with NW RV and BCS. Both had them in stock but were considerably more $ than the eBay version, which I had already ordered. If it fails I'll contact BCS or NW RV. NW RV part# is 16622291.
As close as I can tell, mine broke due to one of the plungers hanging up and not closing when the door was shut. In future I'll hit them with a bit of silicon spray every so often.

The door seal switch also affects the operation of the entry steps.

David, on my coach entry steps (out least in/out function) is controlled by magnets on the other door jam. I know because that also quit working about 2wks ago when steps failed to extend. After some troubleshooting (everywhere but the door) i found faulty door magnet switch. For those interested replacement for me as follows and I found on Amazon:

Steve, thanks for the ebay tip! Found one and ordered it just now. Huge price advantage. Half the battle as you say is figuring out the search word.

David, as Gene notes on at least some of our coaches if not yours there are a couple of magnetic switches like he provided numbers for (check Amazon) on the latch side bottom of the jamb.  They work the steps and one other device that slips my mind.  The connectors for those often have problems related to their location in/near the wheel well.  Steve’s air bladder switch is on the hinge side in the jamb, and uses two spring-loaded square (not cylindrical) pins.  Mine shows a little rust color too, so Steve’s post is a hint to lube the pins and maybe add some Corrosion-X or bulb grease.

Replaced the switch and still no joy. Found that the relay was also bad. Probably a victim of the covid caused travel hiatus.
