Running, brake and marker lights not working
« on: September 03, 2021, 12:14:58 AM »
I have a 2007 42 ft Contessa Bayshore and my running, brake and marker lights are not working. I went to the "coach assist electric bay fuse ID and PCB layout". I checked all pertinent fuses, according to this chart (fuse F24, F33, F66, F70, F77 and F81) and all were good. I also checked all remaining fuses and all were good. I don't know how to check relays other than insert new ones. My Hi/Lo headlights, right and left turn signals (front and rear) and emergency flashers all work. I have no rear running lights, no rear brake lights and no upper (front, rear and side) marker lights. Any help would be appreciated.

Albert,
Common to those circuits is 12v and ground. If you haven't, suggest you use a VOM or light probe to verify you have 12v at the fuses. It may give you an indication where the problem is. The 2008 Contessa diagrams contain a diagram of the marker and brake lights.

Steve, Thank you for your response. I found the connector to my truck had two loose wires that shorted (green - running lights and brown - right turn & brake). I also had a blown rear light bulb, replaced it and I now have brake lights. So, the only thing I am missing, is rear running lights and what I am calling marker lights on the sides and upper front and rear cap. Steve, to do as you suggested, do I have to have the ignition on to check fuses for 12volt? When I use my light probe, do I ground to the frame and check both sides of the fuse connectors and do both sides have to light up to show 12 volts at the fuse? If I don't have 12 volts at the fuse, what then? Thanks, Albert

Albert,
Connect the probe alligator clip to chassis gnd (frame, etc.). There is a handy gnd lug in the very lower rear corner of the PC board in the electrical bay. Pull the headlight switch out 1 notch. That should turn on the lights, except the headlights. Ignition does not need to be on. You should see a 12v indication on both sides of the suspected fuses.

Make sure there are no other loose or shorted wires in the truck connection as I suspect it is the source of your issues. F70 and RL 13 are the components that may be bad. To check the relay, switch it with RL 12. Just make sure that both have the same number of lugs on them.

Steve, As always, you solved my problem and I can't express my appreciation enough. It was the F-70 fuse which had a little discoloration, but didn't appear to be bad. I replaced it and magically, all lights are now working. My wife said she will wax your entire motorhome as a thank you. Just so you know, she has promised to wax ours when I do something nice. I am still waiting. Thanks again, Albert
