Prosine 2.0 Charging Issue
« on: August 21, 2011, 02:16:12 AM »
My Prosine unit is acting very strange.  We are in the mid-south, with real temps in the 100+ range.  Yesterday the display gave a warning of Hi temp T1.  I backed out of that display, and the normal display appeared, with no charging voltage 12.7 (normally it is 13.5).  I Disabled the charger, waited a few minutes and then enabled the charger.  Charging cycle seemed normal, but today after driving several hours in the heat, voltage is down to 12.9 and battery temp is 115, with no error message on the display.  Is the high temps the problem, or is something wrong with my Prosine unit?

Karl,
It could be either one, or both. However if your Prosine was showing an over-temp condition, you may want to check to make sure that you have good air flow to the inverter. On some of the Prosine inverters, Beaver installed an air filter over the cooling fan intakes, so if you have one and it is restricted, that may be your problem. Otherwise, just make sure that the inverter has free air flow.

The Prosine has thermostatically controlled fans to keep it cool, so if it has free air flow to cool it , your basement should not be hot enough to cause any inverter problems.

On my Marquis, the filter was mounted between the Prosine and the wall to which it was attached.  The filter was held in place with a large wire tie.  You may have to loosen the attaching screws, cut the wire tie to slide out the filter.  It was not a bad job.  The filter was totally clogged with dirt.  No more overheat alerts.

Thanks, my unit does not have a filter.  The area around fan is clear and air flow is unrestricted but temp in basement very warm.  Charger is working OK now, but we are not in extreme heat yet.

I am still getting the High Internal Temp warning on my Prosine 2.0.  The fan does seem to be working, no obstructions, ambient temp is much cooler and unit gives warning during initial charge cycle.  It reduces output then cycles normally.  Should I try to replace the cooling fan or replace with new unit?

The air passages may be clogged with dirt.  Possibly why Beaver added the filter.  You may try blowing air through the unit to expel any accumulated dirt, or remove the cover to clean.
