Need sanctity check on my meritor brakes…. What will happen if they are greased with regular grease instead of a clay based grease?

Fred
There have been lots of posts on here over the years as to the problems caused by using the wrong grease on the disc brake calipers .
The result is that the calipers will tighten up on the guide pins and cause them to drag causing excess heat buildup / rotor distortion cracking etc premature brake wear and or heat related failure.
It is also important to not over grease the calipers and when serving them to grease them and then remove the grease fitting to allow any pressure buildup in the slide cavity to purge as this will also create problems.
Many of the members here do there own service on these calipers and remove the fitting replacing them with plugs to keep over zelous lube techs which don't know any better from pumping them full of the wrong grease under high pressure causing a world of problems.
Fred if the calipers have be lubed with regular grease remove the relief valve ( located beside the grease fitting ) and pump the proper grease in to try and displace the other grease from the mechanism.

There is a manual in coach assist for the meritor ADB system you may find helpful.

Hope this helps
Eric
