Galley Slide won’t retract
« on: November 17, 2023, 03:09:18 PM »
My galley slide won’t retract this morning. My first attempt was with shore poser unplugged, and engine running with no success. So I plug shore power back in to give it a try still won’t retract. I will see when I started the engine this morning the engine monitor said low battery. Suggestions please!

On our coach, engine must be off (ignition off) to retract or extend slides

Mike,
Bill is correct. My 07 also disables the slides when ignition is on. The front slides are hydraulic, not electric driven so batteries are needed only to run the hydraulic pump which is located in the front pass side bay.

The slides are locked out of operation when the key is ON.  I always hook up to shore power or run the generator before moving the slides IN or OUT.  That takes the power drain strain off the batteries when moving the slides.  Watch the slides carefully as they move IN or OUT.  Sometimes the slides move out-of-synch from end-to-end, or catch on one end while the other end keeps moving.  Also, make sure the front seats are moved forward far enough such that the slides do NOT hit the edge of the seatbacks.

Don't ask how I learned these things....

Thank you all for your quick responses!
You are spot on! I had the engine running- big rookie mistake!😧
A fellow camper stop by and we reviewed the manual (my third time!) as I read through the steps it clearly say the engine must not be running!
Shut off engine and retracted slide and off I went.
Good tip to plug in to shore power or run generator!

Thanks again!

David has a point to avoid another "rookie" error;  been there, dun that.  When bringing in slides, particularly street side front, make sure the relevant front seat is not slid back.  Fortunately my oversight was while we were at BCS.  They had a local upholstery repair fellow on call, and he took an hour or so to render our driver's seat back cushion unbelievably pristine again.

Especially regarding that slide, while in a hurry to break camp or to be distracted by something or someone while reaching over and facing the entry door to the switches, with your back turned to the driver's seat, you wouldn't believe how the slide trim under power can screw up the seat.  I've often thought there should be a limiting strap under the seat(s) for that reason, but it might not then allow a seat to be fully turnable as designed, and could conceivably risk burning up of the electric seat motor.
