Gray and Black tank vents
« on: June 26, 2012, 04:22:32 PM »
Has anyone replaced the vents for the gray and black tanks?  The vent on my roof seems quite brittle and I would like to replace them.  Where do you gain access to the top of the pipes to replace?

Thanks in advance.

Tom,
The only thing in the gray and black tank venting system that should need replacing is the roof vent itself. The pipe that runs through the wall is schedule 40 PVC, and it is not exposed to UV rays, so it should last the life of the coach. The roof vent itself is attached to the roof from the outside, and it can be easily removed and replaced while you are on the roof. The hard part is removing the old sealer.

When I replaced my roof vents, I installed a weather vane type vent on the black tank that will rotate with the wind and create a better draft to more efficiently vent that tank. One word of caution, be careful to properly seal the new vents. You do not want water running down in the wall.
