Mirror Set Screws
« on: June 30, 2013, 01:24:37 AM »
Does anyone have a tip or trick on how to get the Set Screws loose on the Velvac Mirror Arms.  I needed to adjust both sides.  I used PB Blaster overnight and the 3/16 hex wrench on a battery powered impact wrench.  That managed to get one loose.  The other three have not yielded.  I used a wrench on the hex wrench and managed to twist it  out of shape, still no movement on the set screw.

Hoping some of you have discovered a way to get them loose.

If the corners on the set screws are rounded and a allen wrench doesn't work I would suggest drilling them out and replacing with new set screws. This can be done by drilling a smaller hole than the old set screw and use a easy out tool and then replacing the set screws. If you can drill straight you may be able to remove them with a screwdriver.

The set screws are in good shape, they are so tight that the hex wrench itself is twisting.  I am thinking they are corroded in place.  I wonder if someone used locktite on them?
